This page is dedicated to our classmates who are no longer with us. We're so lucky to have shared great moments with them, in high school and beyond.
May their memories live in our hearts forever.
Barrie passed away June 29, 2019 from complications due to Cystic Fibrosis, a hereditary lung disease diagnosed when she was an infant.
Despite a diagnosis that, for most, places significant limits on their lives, Barrie’s was rich with professional and personal achievements: a graduate of UC Berkeley, she had a 20+ year career in financial services, primarily with Hambrecht & Quist and Dean Witter, and spent the last 20 years as a dedicated volunteer for health-related causes.
In her healthcare work, she served for 15 years on the board of Tobacco Free Kids, the largest global anti-tobacco lobbying organization, supported by the Bloomberg Foundation, that works to ensure clean indoor air and to eliminate teen smoking across the world. In recognition of her dedication and contributions, this year TFK named their annual Youth Advocate of the Year award the Barrie Fiske National Youth Advocate of the Year.
Barrie also served on the board of the Fishers Island Health Project, where she led a campaign to raise a $2M endowment. As President of the Morse Foundation for three years, she oversaw the granting of 57 scholarships to employees and their family members of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, totaling almost $235K.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Planitzer; her stepchildren Kate (Michael Harper), Nancy (Whit Hayes), Ruthie and Ted; her sisters Kim (Don Furman) and Carey, and brother Todd (Vicky); eight nieces and nephews and five grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider remembering her tireless work on behalf of Tobacco Free Kids or The Fishers Island Health Project.
